Abiding in Christ

Key Scripture: ”Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:4-5).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to abide in you constantly. I know that if I abide in you, and your Words abide in me, I may ask what I will and it will be accomplished. Abiding in you, Lord, will keep me from sin and make me fruitful in your kingdom. So many important things stem from abiding in you. Teach me to abide – to settle, dwell, and take root – in you.

You, Lord, are the vine, I am but a branch whose life stems from you. Thank you for grafting me into your vine and for pruning me of all the things in my life that do not lead to growth and fruitfulness.

I now understand that I can accomplish nothing apart from you, but through you I can do all things.

I will endeavor to obey your command to love others. I realize this is possible only insofar as I abide in you and you in me. Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress my God, in you will I trust as I abide under your shadow and swell in the secret place of your presence. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to abide with me forever, and for showing me the secret of abiding in the Father’s love.

It brings me great joy to know that you have bought me with a price, and that it is my responsibility to serve you first, before others. Thank you for calling me.

You have imparted to me the anointing of your Holy Spirit which now abides within me and teaches me as I abide in you. Because of you abiding presence, I now have confidence and will have no reason to be ashamed at your coming.
