April 2011 Beats

School building continuing works ongoing. The DLA administration has picked up once again the continuation of structural works of school building this summer time which has hibernated for a while.  Beginning with the stairway going to the third floor, construction begun on April 4 and is hoped to be completed with the concrete slab work for the west wing rooms by middle of May. Alongside these structural works are the improvement and upgrading of administration offices, H.E. Room and NKP Room which will be fully air-conditioned to make it more conducive to learning. The whole DLA campus is truly undergoing a makeover of its facilities in preparation for the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum and to attract more enrollees to be trained up in the way of the Lord. Through the generous support of an SCCD member in the United States, the DLA received a soft loan of $24,000.00 under its Invest-a-Cash Scheme payable in 10 years.

Scholarship Program for Indigent Children (SPIC) seeks sponsors. The DLA in partnership with SCCD is seeking sponsors for the 19 indigent children enrolled in the DLA requiring a fund of about P65,000.00 for its general scholarship support this coming SY 2011-2012.  The whole program cost is at an estimated P300,000.00 with parents’ scholars shouldering 22% of it covering books. About 58% of the scholars’ budget is sponsored by SCCD members, and friends of the DLA as well as sister church UCC Holmdel in New Jersey, USA.  This SPIC is now on its 4th year and has graduated two scholars who continue to be supported in a public high school.  A number of its scholars had been awarded Best in Character, A-1 and Top Five over the years. This March 30, 2011 Recognition Day, awarded were brothers Michael and Marvin Almendral, Jessa Cernito, Michael Martinez and Sarah Mae Hayag for Best in Character; Van Hallen Hayag as A-1 Child.

DLA participates in School Paper Advisers Seminar-Workshop. Two teachers were sent to the DepEd organized School Paper Advising Seminar-Workshop on April 25-29, 2011 at the Dasmarinas Elementary School. They were Teachers Jingle Ancheta and Anna Marie Samuya who will begin to serve as the advisers of the Disciples Gazette this coming June 2011.  For four consecutive years now the Disciples Gazette has regularly come out with two issues each year and has made all effort to provide the pupils and parents information on DLA school life.  It is seriously pursuing the direction of participating in School Press Conferences for exposure of pupils to campus journalism.

KSP offered to incoming grade 1. The DepEd designed KSP (Kinder Summer Program) is currently offered by the DLA to incoming Grade 1 pupils starting April 24 to May 27 with Teacher Jocelyn Vedia handling it.  Though in a shortened form of four weeks, (DepEd follows an eight-week curriculum) this KSP will help the incoming Grade 1 to cope with the demands of formal education.  Adjustment in the age requirement for Gr. 1 is now being observed by the DLA in connection with the implementation of the K+12 Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum. As per DepEd Order No. 23 s. 2011 dated March 16, 2011 children qualified to enroll in the KSP shall include those who will be Grade 1 by June 2011. They must be: five (5) years old and six (6) months without preschool experience; and above five (5) years old and six (6) months without preschool experience and have not enrolled in Grade 1.  Cut off birthday then is before October 1, 2005.
