April 2012 Beats

  • DLA offers Grade 1 Summer Classes. For several years now the DLA has been offering summer classes for incoming Gr. 1 pupils even prior to the institutionalization of DepEd’s KSP (Kinder Summer Program).  This class is specially offered to those Gr. 1 pupils whose diagnostic entrance exams revealed weaknesses in the basic learning skills of reading, writing and numbers needed to cope with the grade 1 curriculum.  With the onset of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum which is now in the Grade 1 level and Grade 7 (or 1st year high school) come June, summer classes such as these would be valuable for the learners.  Handling the class which has six enrollees this year is Ms. Jocelyn Vedia, the Grade 1 teacher who just recently passed the Licensure Exam for Teachers held in March of this year.
  • Continuing school building works going on.  Aiming at completing at least the west wing section of the DLA building, columns, plastering works, floor topping are being done this summer months alongside painting and other repair/maintenance works on a meager budget of P120,000.00 but funded for the first time by the school revenue from last year’s. Mr. Cenon Almendral, a church member and parent of DLA/SCCD scholars continues to serve as the lead worker being a skilled mason/carpenter.  He was one of the construction workers hired by the church in 2005 when the church and school building projects took off.  Thus, he is always sought for continuing building and repair works.
  • Gawad Karangalan grants cash gift to Gr. 6 First Honors.  The Gawad Karangalan program of the City of Dasmarinas handed a cash gift of P3,000.00 with certificate and other tokens to Claude Jean Regala on Apr. 30, 2012 at Dela Salle University being a resident of Dasmarinas City bagging first honors in his batch of Grade 6 graduates.  Certain restrictions were set by the city government this time on awards and recognitions given to honors and college graduates.  Schools must not only be recognized by the Department of Education but also hold Business Permit from the Office of the Mayor.  The DLA was able to secure smoothly this basic requirement, thus, it is now a registered educational institution in the City of Dasmarinas.
  • SPIC generates 77% of targeted general scholarship support.  A total of P107,980.30 or 76.70% of the targeted fund requirement for general scholarship support for SY 2011-2012 was generated by SCCD in partnership with the DLA sponsoring eleven indigent children who are without identified sponsors of the total 24 scholars in the list.
  • Total cost of scholarship program for the past year was P308,875.00 inclusive of books which are shouldered by the parents themselves comprising about 20% of the total fund.  Remaining balance that was not attained but was absorbed instead by the DLA as an expense was P32,794.70.  Profound appreciation is expressed to the following sponsors and donors of SPIC for 2011-2012.
