Back to Basics Part 2: Our Time

Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-17

The most often asked question in a given day is ‘What time is it?’ Time is a very important part of our lives, and God has a great deal to say about how we should use it. If we are to become what God wants us to be, then Our Time is one of 6 areas which must be brought under discipline.

Our time is in the hand of God.

Psalm 31:14-15, Psalm 90:2, Galatians 4:4-5, Acts 17:30-31

The way we use our time reveals our values and priorities.

We can make the most of our time by:

  • Receiving Christ as our personal Savior.
  • Discovering God’s will for our lives, and walking daily in His will.
  • Writing a mission statement for our lives.
    • Ask, “Lord, how do you want me to invest the rest of my life?”
    • Pray, “Father, under Your divine guidance, I choose to invest the rest of my life ____________________.”

  • Your job is not necessarily your life’s purpose.  It is your vocation in the midst of fulfilling God’s plan and purpose and will for your life. People who retire should invest the rest of their lives in serving God.  Most people live longer when they are investing instead of spending their lives.
  • It isn’t how long you live, but what you do with the time God has given you.  Example: Oswald Chambers, author of My Utmost For His Highest

QUESTION: Are you drifting through life and filling up your time with things of no eternal value?  Or are you investing your life to the glory of God?
