February 2011 Beats

Gr. 5 and 6 pupils take REAT. A total of 53 pupils of the DLA took the Regional Elementary Achievement Test on March 1, 2011 in Dasmarinas Bagong Bayan public elementary and secondary central schools District 2. There were 31 Gr. 6 pupils who took said exam with Dasmarinas National High School fronting Kadiwa as testing center and 22 Gr. 5 pupils in the adjacent Central Elementary School.  Their class advisers Teacher Malou Brazil and Teacher Johnirey Sapon with Head Teacher Cristy Gervacio stayed whole day in the said schools to provide full attention and moral support to the DLA examinees any time of the day.  Review sessions were conducted to these Grade 5 and 6 classes the whole month of February in preparation for this DepEd mandated achievement test.  Coming up is the National Achievement Test for Gr. 6 pupils on March 14, 2011 with venue yet to be announced.  All private schools in the Division of City Schools Dasmarinas were required to have 100% of their pupils take the REAT while a sampling was just taken from the public schools.

DLA teachers attend UbD seminar workshop.  At least five teachers together with the School Director Pastor Leng Lubang attended a seminar workshop on Understanding by Design (UbD) sponsored by Rex Bookstore on February 5, 2011 at Mater Dei Academy in Tagaytay City.  The UbD is a teaching framework that shifts the teaching-learning process from the teacher to the students through interactive activities with the goal of deeper understanding for a more enduring knowledge. With the K+12 Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum to be implemented beginning this June 2011 for the pre-elementary level, Preparatory or Senior Kinder class and full take off next SY 2012-13 in base levels Grade 1 in Elementary and 1st Year in High School, the UbD will provide the channel by which a more enduring learning would take place in the classrooms. All schools are now gearing up for this pedagogical shift which is not actually new but just going back to the basics of learning and embracing what the approach must be in order that learning would happen in mind, heart, body and spirit of young learners. The UbD is hoped to help educators decongest the present curriculum which is one reason for the implementation of the K+12 aside from the necessity of adapting global education standards.
