God Is Within Us

“For in Christ there is all of God in a human body; so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ.” (Colossians 2:9-10 LB)

Someone has said, “What I have to do tomorrow has made a wreck of me today.” Many times we rush through today’s pressure-packed schedule only to find that tomorrow’s is even more hectic. We come to the place where we want to say “Stop, world. Let me off.”

Perhaps we have failed to recognize that Jesus Christ is sufficient for every circumstance we face. Could this explain much of the failure, discouragement, and burnout God’s people experience today? Jesus Christ does not have the answer. He is our answer.

The fullness of God dwells in the Lord Jesus. He is the depository of all God is. “In Christ there is all of God in a human body.” The King James translation reads, “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (v 9). All the fullness of God has been embodied in Jesus Christ. What God is, Christ is. All that makes God God is in Jesus Christ.

God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ to reveal Himself to us. The Bible says that “[Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature” (Col 1:15). Wuest’s Greek translation reads. “In Him there is continuously and permanently at home all the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form.”

And since Christ is all of God in a human body, we are filled with God through our union with Christ! Exclusive of His deity we have the characteristics of Christ himself. The King James translation reads, “Ye are complete in him”(v. 10).

There is much discussion today concerning personal fulfillment. People are seeking fulfillment in such things as careers, hobbies, and pleasures. Yet we will never find fulfillment in these areas of life. Real fulfillment can only come from Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “you may be filled (through all your being) unto all the fullness of God – [that is] may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself” (Ephesians 3:29 AMP). What more could we want?
