November 2011 Beats

DLA goes on Educational Tour. A total of 269 participants inclusive of parents/adult companions, faculty and staff of the DLA joined the Annual Educational Tour on November 25, 2011 in various places in Metro Manila.  Of this 269 participants 145 were pupils comprising 75% of the whole pupil population indicating a better turn out than last year’s.  Those pupils who were not able to join are to submit an alternative project related also to the theme of this year’s trip which is primarily historical. The sites visited were Luneta Lights and Sounds, Fort Santiago in Intramuros and Manila Ocean Park – Trails to Antarctica and Musical Fountain Show.  A Safety Awareness Seminar was also part of the tour package, the first in the itinerary conducted at Pasig Rain Forest Park.  Hunnypot Tours with Ms. Lilybeth Balderas served as broker for two years now.

Code of Pupil Discipline approved for immediate implementation. After years of careful study drawing from actual experiences in the DLA and also from other schools, the Guidance Office under the leadership of Teacher Cynthia Macario has drafted the Code of Discipline for DLA Pupils presented during the 3rd General PTA meeting on November 18, 2011 for awareness and duly approved by the School Board in its November 29 meeting.  Implementation of this code is now effective after said approval.  The code stipulates the creation of a 5-member Committee on Discipline (CoDi) composed of 3 senior teachers, Guidance Counselor and either the Head Teacher or School Director. It lists in detail the offenses that call for disciplinary action classified into major and minor offenses and equivalent sanctions to be meted out for corrective purposes.  This Code of Discipline was presented by Teacher Cynthia Macario integrating it in her lecture to the parents on “Children’s Rights and Responsibilities.”  Earlier during the same week, November 15, the faculty sat down in the School Library for an In-House Seminar on the topic, “Parent-Teacher Conference: Handling Confrontational Students” with Teacher Jingle Ancheta as Resource Person.
