2011 October Beats & Pieces


World Teachers’ Day joined in. Another first time was experienced by the DLA with other member schools of the Federation of Christian Schools, Cavite in celebration of the World Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5, 2011 at the Center for Community Transformation in Tagaytay City.  Classes were cancelled for all teachers to express solidarity with the globally celebrated Teachers’ Day letting go of the December local celebration observed by most Christian schools.  All teachers of the DLA joined in this big gathering filling up the auditorium of CCT by close to 300 teachers from Christian schools in the province of Cavite.  The DLA administration also gave out simple tokens to all faculty and staff in affirmation of their significant contribution to the molding of young children.

DLA participates in Division level Mathraton.  For the first time the DLA representing Cluster 8 of private schools participated in the division level Mathraton on Oct. 14, 2011 at Dasmarinas public school in Paliparan.  Miguel Baldelobar of Grade 6 class partnering with another pupil coming from Kin Yang Academy boldly joined this academic contest in so short a notice.  Though they did not make it in this very challenging quiz, the experience was worth it.  Given these various contests now being participated in by the DLA, certain modifications will be instituted in the school’s academic program foremost of which is holding subject area quiz bees to identify able pupils who will be developed and trained to compete in inter-school competitions.  The recent involvement of the DLA outside of its campus has provided ideas on how the school could improve its program offerings.

DLA holds Biennial Scouts Investiture.  The Biennial Scouts Investiture was held on Oct. 25, 2012 2pm at the SCCD Quirino Villanueva Memorial Multi-Purpose Hall welcoming to the Scouting movement a total of 109 scouts broken down into 24 Kab scouts, 30 Star scouts, 22 Girl scouts and 33 Boy scouts.  Ms. Nely Ganipan, District Field Advisor of GSP and Mr. Jun Mendoza District Coordinator of BSP, were the Investing Officers.   Sponsors came to put on the scouting emblems to the scouts leaving cash gifts to the DLA Scouting organization.  Scout Masters and Leaders of the DLA included Teachers Johnirey Sapon  Jocelyn Vedia, Genevieve Subion and Malou Brazil.  Backyard Camping  followed after the Investiture ceremony.

28th DLA Founding Anniversary celebrated.  In a simple yet profound way the 28th Founding Anniversary of the Disciples Learning Academy was celebrated on Oct. 27, 2011 at the SCCD Multi-Purpose Hall with the theme, “Growing Together Wholistically for God’s Glory.”  School Board Chairperson Ms. Cecille Mendoza graced the occasion by delivering an inspirational remarks encouraging DLA pupils to strive hard in their studies developing not only their mental skills but alongside healthy body must be a deep relationship with God.  Falling on the same occasion was the UN Day which is traditionally observed in the DLA through an offering of prayers for selected UN member countries that recently faced devastating disasters and calamities which include economic and political turmoil.  This year, countries that were prayed for by each Grade level representative were Japan, Syria/Egypt, Thailand, US, Libya and Philippines. Other activities that were conducted in celebration of the DLA Founding Anniversary were SCCD-DLA History Group Game, poem-writing in tribute to alma mater DLA and snacks of pancake and juice were served to all pupils courtesy of the ever faithful friend/supporter of SCCD-DLA, Mr. and Mrs. Roger/Angie-Hayag Felix who regularly send balikbayan boxes full of books and food items from the US.  A Certificate of Appreciation was given to the said couple and to the Newberry Library based in Chicago, USA with which the Felix Couple maintains connection for sourcing out books they give out annually to other educational institutions.  Part 2 celebration of the DLA Anniversary will be on January 16-20, 2012 featuring the yearly Field Demonstration.

Backyard Camping held in DLA grounds.  Under blue skies and starry night, about 90 scouts joined the Annual Backyard Camping at SCCD-DLA grounds with kab and star scouts just staying until 8pm leaving the older scouts to stay overnight to have an outdoor experience in tents.  Group games with patrol yells and cheers enlivened the whole gathering which started 2pm on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011.  Teacher Jingle Ancheta with Scout Master Johnirey Sapon and other teachers and staff ran the entire activity marking the close of the first semester for this school year.
