Releasing Our Burdens to God

“Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Life’s burdens—whether emotional, relational, or financial—can weigh us down. The longer we carry them, the heavier they seem. Unless we deal with them properly, they can cloud our thinking, interfere with our work, and affect our family life.

The world offers solutions that are temporary at best: Live for today. Do what feels good. Drown your sorrows with pleasure or work. The only permanent solution is found in Jesus Christ. He invites us to come to Him and receive rest from the weight of our troubles.

Jesus’ wonderful invitation is all-inclusive and ongoing. It covers believers and nonbelievers alike. The first time we come to Christ in faith, He takes over the encumbrance of our sins. Every one of us was born with a “flesh” nature that separated us from God. We were under God’s judgment and bore a heavy load of guilt (John 16:8). When we trusted Christ as our Savior, our sin-debt was marked “paid” and our guilt was removed (Rom. 8:1).

Once we are believers, Jesus asks us to develop a lifetime habit of coming to Him with our cares—this is an offer motivated by His profound love for us. At the Father’s request, God the Son left His place in heaven and became a man; He endured persecution and suffering, and was crucified in our place (Phil. 2:6-8). Christ demonstrated His love for us in everything He did. Because of this, we can have confidence that He will never turn us away (Heb. 4:16).

Every day Jesus invites us to draw near in order to find rest from our burdens. Have you said yes to Him today?
