The Mission

by Julienne Jeremy Reyes

“To love the Lord our God
Is the heartbeat of our mission
The spring from which our service overflows
Across the street or around the world
The mission’s still the same
Proclaim and live the truth in Jesus’ name.”

I was reminded just a week ago that I have an article to make which has the theme “growing together in mission”. What first came into my mind when I heard the word “mission” was the hand mime presentation that I presented together with my classmates in DLA way back 8 years ago during my grade school years. “The Mission” is the title of the song above; sung by Steve Green and was the song that we hand-mimed.

As I put my feet into this piece, I have realized that the song which lines appeared above fits very much perfectly to our theme and also to my present life – let this become my testimony, also.

It has almost been 2 weeks since our family left to settle and start from scratch to another country. This may not be easy because we had no choice but to dispose and get rid of the things that we won’t need. We planned and packed only clothes that we will need.  We brought stuffs that are highly prioritized, of course on top of this is the Bible. While we plan these stuffs, we also plan and picture what our life will be here – Shelter, Work, Schooling and other basic needs – but must we not forget as Christians our second home and shelter, the Church. For this matter of faith, our family was already blessed with a Church even before we arrive here and they were already waiting for the four of us to be a part of their growing mission. Blessed are we that the Lord had already prepared a place for us to worship and for us to continue our mission.

What does this story tell? What does this imply and how does this relate to the theme “Growing Together in Mission”? Our mission doesn’t end just by working or living abroad or when we become busy doing our things. We must find our way on how to give praises and thanks to continue to serve the Lord. Yes, we left the country where our church was built – the place where our worship takes place together with our brothers and sisters in Christ, but our faith comes together with us wherever we go.

Our life is the testimony of our faith.

We have always been reminded that we are made for a purpose. We do not just come here to breathe and gain existence but to live a Christ-like life for the Lord.  Just as Jesus showed love to all kinds of people even the enemies and just as He spread the truth – the word of God – we continue to fulfill our mission and keep the light shining.
