TRP

Typhoon Rehabilitation Program(TRP)

What is the TRP? This is the newest “baby” of SCCD in the aftermath of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. While the church has responded to calamity-stricken churches in the past like UCCP Tignoan, Quezon in 2004 and UCCP Ginsaugon, Leyte in 2007, there was no clearly specified ministry to sustain SCCD’s rehabilitation program for typhoons and calamities. The TRP was conceived to address not only the devastation of human lives caused by calamities but also that of the environment. Still in the formulation and exploratory stage, the TRP will establish networks and linkages with existing agencies, private and government involved in the rehabilitation of damaged physical environment. Adopting sister churches affected by the recent typhoons will remain to be a primary component. The Disciples Learning Academy will be working closely with SCCD in this TRP, creating awareness among school children on the deteriorating state of our country’s natural resources. Its Anniversary Theme, “Responding to God’s Call of Caring for Creation and Becoming Responsible Citizens” was inspired by this ministry direction of SCCD. Coin banks are set up in classrooms for donation towards the TRP, school garden and greening of the campus as projects adopted by the Iskul Munting Konsilyo (pupil government) and Scouting groups. The TRP Fund has thus far reached the total amount of P65,875.00 + $200.00 coming.

One stanza in the VCS theme song says, “We are eco-kids, we are called to dare, reduce recycle or just simply care. We are calling all people to do their share. Let’s love and respect all creatures of earth.” Isn’t this a very strong call? From the mouth of babes the Lord speaks, indeed! Let us heed God’s voice in creation. Come and join the SDCC! Come and participate in the TRP!
